After reading her work I better understand why Jamaica has the political environment that it does. Her work stops in the early 80's. I hope she does some follow on research.

In each rebellion, two ideological themes re-appear with remarkable tenacity. Bakan demonstrates the existence of "the religious idiom," an ideological current which uses Biblical teaching to reinforce and justify the struggle for greater rights.
