Also, since many of the stela (stone carvingss) are worn beyond recognition, the drawings in this book give a better view than you can actually see at the monuments. This is one of the oldest sites with Olmec and Maya||By examining twenty-four well preserved stelae,Virginia Smith uses formal, iconographic, and statistical analyses to establish a stylistic inventory and set of rules for studying design in Izapa art.
